About Us

To all of the empowerment-seeking souls who have found their way here: Welcome!

My name is Keiraj Gillis, and I have been both a student and practitioner of divinatory arts for more than a decade. My journey into esoterica began with astrology, where I learned that the true scale of the art of celestial divination was much larger than magazine horoscopes would have a person believe. I was fascinated by its breadth and depth as a field of study. Inspired by the celestial, and in an effort to deepen my knowledge of occult themes, I began an exploration of numerology shortly thereafter. Drawing connections between those two arts helped me understand how a person’s life can be enriched by seeing how their presence on this earth is a reflection of the divine: “As above, so below.” When the tarot came into my life years later, I felt as though it had already been with me since my journey began. I had been on The Fool’s Journey the entire time and finally had a visual depiction of that journey in the cards.

The genesis of the name “The Doctor in Yellow” is simple: I’m a doctoral student of education who wears yellow almost exclusively. (And yes, I know I’m not a doctor yet, but when I become one, I won’t have to deal with the regret of having named the business “The Almost-Doctor in Yellow.”) However, the name carries more meaning than that. Yellow, to me, is a color of optimism and a forward-facing view. It’s representative of the sun, and just as the sun rises each day without fixating on how well it did its job the day before, so can a person benefit by continually looking forward, knowing that night only provides an opportunity to rise again. Sol, our Atlas moth mascot, bears the sun on its wings as a reminder of this.

The doctor part of the The Doctor in Yellow is no accident either. It is a rebuttal to the argument that spiritualists turn their backs on logic or are excessively influenced by the mystical at the cost of maintaining a rational worldview. This, in my experience, could not be further from the truth. We are critical thinkers and intellectualists who have chosen to embrace spirituality as a means of personal growth and development. If someone argues against that sentiment, then that person is simply unfamiliar with our community. To be unfamiliar with something, however, is a good thing—it is a chance to learn.

Readings purchased through The Doctor in Yellow are completed and delivered by me. I focus heavily on empowerment, I do not pass judgment on a client’s life path or challenges, and I am forward-looking. My commitment to clients is to handle their concerns with care, to remain accessible and transparent, and help them see that they, as all members of our wonderful community do, have wisdom to contribute to the world. And for those who are new to the divinatory arts altogether, I make the commitment to honor the vulnerability required to enter an unfamiliar space. All are welcome and all are respected.
